Scientists in emerging economies often face significant challenges both when beginning their careers and throughout their professional journeys. These challenges range from limited resources, time constraints, restricted access to conferences and international collaborators, lack of recognition, and language barriers, just to name a few.
There exists a wide range of research capacity strengthening efforts worldwide, employing a variety of approaches. The aim of the Global Science Initiative is to undertake rigorous research to provide evidence on the impact of various programs and policies designed to develop scientific capabilities in emerging economies. Our research helps identify what works, what doesn’t, and how to best implement strategies that enhance scientific capabilities in emerging economies.
We work closely with policy makers, funders, companies and organizations in both the Global South and Global North to better understand the drivers behind improvements in science and innovative capacity and to support design and testing of initiatives.
We also provide tailored training programs and workshops, provide strategic support to help organizations refine and implement initiatives, and generate policy recommendations based on our research findings.
